Design Challenges
This transitional mediterranean style living room area presented a challenge because there was a large, bare wall and the furniture had to be floated in the space. The style was a contemporary mediterranean look. The facade of the home is a typical mediterranean style stucco, but the client was drawn more to furniture with clean lines and a contemporary-transitional aesthetic. She is also drawn to unique lighting fixtures and wanted to bring in some shiny metals.
Design Solutions
We anchored the seating with a rug and broke up the monotony of the bare wall with a 3D wall covering and a custom wall-hung media cabinet. The furniture selected struck a balance between mediterranean shapes and cleaner, sleeker lines.
I drew inspiration from traditional Moroccan shapes, like quatrefoil, for the more traditional aspects of the design, and Spanish modern designer Miguel Fisac, for the modern aspects. The aqua and indigo color palette was selected to bring coastal Florida colors. The client loved the design and felt it really reflected her style and met her family's needs.
