Transitional and Classic: Get the Look

Posted by Julie on Apr 16, 2019

This transitional and classic master bedroom was a lot of fun to do! We took notes from Neo-classical design and blended with modern and contemporary elements to create a perfectly transitional look!

This is a re-post of a previous blog

College Park Tour of Homes

It was part of a local "Tour of Homes" in the trendy College Park neighborhood of Orlando. The client was someone with whom I have been working for years! This was the final decorating project in his home and he really wanted to bring the "wow" factor. This master bedroom delivered! We got so many "wows" when the tour participants came through the house! My client wanted a soothing neutral palette, which can be bland and boring. However, I used a great blend of textures and pattern to create some visual interest in the space. I wanted to share the "wow" factor with you, show you how I put the room together, and give you a chance to shop the look!

The real key to getting the Classic + Transitional style right is finding the balance between contemporary and classic elements. The boards below can help you see how to create the balance. For example, if you choose a classic nightstand, pair it with a more contemporary lamp and a contemporary line drawing or abstract for a classic and timeless look.

Nightstand - Lamp - Art - Round Accessory - Round Accessory - Jewelry Box - Books - Bookends

In the foyer example, I selected a console that has a clean, contemporary look, but reminds me of a classic chinoiserie style table. Then, I paired it will a very classic navy blue gourd shaped lamp and more traditional accessories.

Console - Lamp - Mirror - Wall Paper - Tray - Orchid - Accessory
